If you had considered motorsport before but found it to be too expensive, karting may be the answer!

Karting in Tasmania takes place over 4 tracks, located at Launceston, Hobart, Smithton and Burnie. Both Launceston and Smithton have hosted National Championships previously.

Karting is very popular when compared with other amateur motor sports in the state. Entries of around 80+ drivers are common at each meeting, and a large number of spectators also attend the racing.

The variety of classes run in Tasmania mean that anyone with a kart can find a class that suits them. The classes commonly run include:

• Cadets
• Rookies
• Junior National Light
• Junior National Heavy
• Junior Clubman
• Sportsman Light
• Sportsman Heavy
• Sportsman Super Heavy
• Senior National Light
• Senior National Heavy
• National Over 40s Light
• National Over 40s Heavy
• Rotax Light
• Rotax Heavy
• Leopard Light
• Leopard Heavy

Each year around 18 - 24 events are held; an equal number at each circuit. If you are interested in attending a kart meeting, check the Race Calendar above and see when the next meeting is happening near you. You can be sure you will be in for an exciting and enjoyable day of motorsport!
